Sex, Love, & Porn Addiction Therapist Designations
Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT):
A designation given to licensed therapists who have completed specialized training through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). Founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes, a pioneer in the field of addiction and trauma, the CSAT program provides a structured approach for assessing and treating individuals struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors and relationship issues. CSATs are trained not only in understanding sex addiction but also in addressing the underlying factors that contribute to it, including trauma, attachment issues, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Associate Sex Addiction Therapist (ASAT):
ASATs complete the same training as CSATs, however, they may have less than five years of clinical experience, may not have a master's degree, and/or may not have full licensure yet, but are working towards that goal.
Sex Addiction Recovery Therapist (SRT):
A certification offered by the American Association of Sex Addiction Therapists, typically requiring a master's degree or higher and meeting specific certification requirements.
Sex Addiction Recovery Coach (SRC):
Another AASAT certification for individuals who meet the sex addiction certification requirements but don't hold a master's degree or licensed counselor credentials.
Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT):
Certification for therapists specializing in treating partner trauma and betrayal.
Associate Partner Trauma Therapist (APTT):
Certification for therapists with less experience in partner trauma treatment.
Pastoral Sex Addiction Professional (PSAP):
Certification for clergy members specializing in sex addiction treatment.
